ReliefJet Essentials for Outlook is a set of more than 160 tools for performing a wide range of tasks in Outlook: processing email messages, contacts, appointments, meetings, tasks and other Outlook items.
Today's Highlights:
- Changing the Default MapIt URL
- Changes Coming to Outlook's Reading Pane
- The operating system is not presently configured to run this application
Changing the Default MapIt URL
Outlook contacts use Bing Maps to map addresses and a reader wanted to know if he could map his contact's addresses using a different map service.
Yes! You can change the mapping service used by the Contact's Map It button in all versions of Outlook except Outlook 2007 or 2003. These users can use a macro to map addresses using another server, as can anyone who wants to use more than one map service. The macro can map multiple locations and return driving directions.
To change the map service, add String named MapScriptURL to HKCU|Software|Microsoft|Office|16.0|Outlook|Options|General. Use the URL for the service as the string. Replace the street field with "<0s>", City with "<1s>), State is "<2s>", with city and zip "<3s>" and "<4s>"
For more information and a ready to use registry file, go to Change the Mapping Service used by Outlook's Map Link. The mapping macro is at Map Contact Addresses or Meeting Locations
Changes Coming to Outlook's Reading Pane
Coming soon to Outlook 2016: a new conversation view, one that shows the conversations in the order the message was received, like the layout used in the Office Group folders and in many online forums. To reply click in the Reply field at the bottom (or choose Reply or Forward from the message in each message header).
This new format should have a familiar feel to anyone who uses forums. Even so, it takes some getting used to and I'm not sold on it (change is hard, even for me!), especially with messages with long signatures as I think it makes it harder to follow the message. It is great for shorter messages.
It's available now in the Insider Fast ring (build 8017.1000) and will be available to all click-to-run subscribers within a few weeks.
Speaking of reading pane replies, a user wanted to know how read the original messages and to delete the draft when working in the reading pane.
When you pop the reply out of the reading pane, you can see the original in the message list - or switch to another message then you can expand the conversation to see the one you are replying to -or just scroll down in the message you are composing (unless you deleted the original). To get rid of a draft you are working on, click Discard at the top of the window.
The operating system is not presently configured to run this application
A number of users are reporting an error message when they try to open any Office applications:
"The operating system is not presently configured to run this application"
This is apparently caused by an update to Norton security software. Either uninstall Norton or make this change:
- Open Settings, then Firewall
- Select Intrusion and Browser Protection.
- Disable Exploit Prevention.
- Create an appointment to remind you to enable Exploit Protection.
A bad Office update is also causing problems for some users. Uninstall March 28, 2017, update for Excel 2010 (KB3191855) if you have problems using Excel.
